This list continues to be fleshed out with great puzzle or puzzle-adjacent experiences for those that enjoy the likes of Myst.
While many puzzle games have eschewed the sheer 'bang your head against the wall' level of difficulty that Myst made popular, there are still some that enjoy this catharsis. Myst is a classic example of a game that threw players into the deep end right from the get-go. From indie titles to AAA experiences, and everything in between, the number of games on the table is staggering. Now you can relive the glory days of PC puzzle gaming but with a completely new look and feel. Fortunately, for those that love the original game, a brand new, fully remade version has been brought to us. In retrospect i don't even think it was so hard - i was just over thinking it.The puzzle adventure classic, Myst, is a staple of gaming, with many people having wonderful memories of playing this brutally difficult game way back in the '90s. For some reason i had a really hard time with the steam-valve puzzle. I would rate Voltaic in the middle - fun but frustrating for me at times. Even after i knew what i had to do, i struggled to keep my bearings and navigate the environment to accomplish the goal. Because realMyst is a remake, I figured we could discuss it and the original all in one go. The organic level design made it very difficult to tell what was what. This week, the spotlight is on Myst/realMyst. I spent so much time figuring out where i could click to find a new trail. Loved it.īy contrast, Edanna is probably my least favorite experience of any Myst related environment. The payoff at the end with how you complete the age is so rewarding. Rewarding attention to detail paid during exploration elsewhere is a great game mechanic. I found the puzzles challenging but logical - although i just got lucky on one.
High highs, but some low lows.Īmateria might be my favorite age among Myst, Riven and Exile (still have to play the others).
